BYU Appears Headed for The Big East Conference. Seriously, BYU the Mormon School from Utah

It seems as if The Big East conference is serious about putting together a formidable Western Division and is making a hard push to add BYU in addition to Boise St and others. The Big East, reeling from the defections of Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC and WVU to the Big 12, is desperately trying to stay relevant in football. Invites have reportedly already been sent out to Houston, Southern Methodist, Central Florida, Air Force and Navy. Houston and SMU have some good football history and Houston is currently knocking on the door to an at large invite to the BCS this season. Boise is a perrenial powerhouse and BCS buster and BYU is always solid.

The result of this could be a very strong football conference with schools all across the nation and the Big East could once again emerge stronger, in some sense, after a raid much like how it became the hands down best basketball conference in the years following the first ACC raid. Here in UConn country many are still waiting for that ACC invite so that we can rejoin Pitt, Syracuse, and BC but that does not appear to be on the horizon any time soon. For now the best UConn fans can hope for is that this new Big East configuration works out and allows for UConn to expand the UConn football brand further around the country.
